  95. This package contains Replicator (TM) by Stevenson Technical Services,
  96. Inc. (STSI).  This document contains only a brief description of the
  97. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  98. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  99. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.
  100.  
  101. Replicator is a program designed to take a "snap-shot" of a floppy
  102. diskette, and store the information in an image file.  This image file
  103. contains all of the information stored on the original diskette,
  104. including DOS, directories and sub-directories, programs, and data.
  105. The image file can be stored on a hard disk, and even transferred
  106. over a modem.  When the diskette is needed at some future date,
  107. Replicator decompresses the image file onto a blank (formatted)
  108. diskette, creating a look-alike version of the original.
  109.  
  110. In addition, Replicator maintains a complete database of the disk images
  111. that have been created.  Each disk image entry in the database can
  112. hold up to 10 description lines, the date the image file was created,
  113. and a complete list of all files contained on the original diskette!
  114. The database can be edited, browsed, searched, and printed using an easy
  115. push-button interface.  Network support is included for multi-user
  116. environments.

  118. Replicator is a shareware program.  This evaluation version includes
  119. all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.  You may
  120. use it for up to 2 weeks, without charge (see REPLICAT.DOC for more
  121. details).  If you like the program, and wish to continue its use after
  122. this evaluation period, you are required to pay for the program (see
  123. REGISTER.DOC for more details).  Any fee you may have paid to others
  124. (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a
  125. fee for their copying and distribution services, rather than a payment
  126. for continued use of the program.

  156. ===== Installation =====================================

  158. The installation procedure for Replicator is quite simple.  The
  159. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the
  160. entire process.  You will need about 1 megabyte of available disk space
  161. on the hard drive on which you plan to install Replicator.
  162.  
  163. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  164. Replicator.
  165.  
  166.  
  167. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  168.  
  169. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  170.  
  171.    o  Place Replicator distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  172.       appropriate diskette drive.
  173.  
  174.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  175.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  176.       the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  177.  
  178.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  179.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  180.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  181.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  182.       the Replicator files to that directory.  If you received
  183.       Replicator on two diskettes, you will need to insert Disk 2 in the
  184.       diskette drive when asked to do so.  If you so direct it, the
  185.       installation program will install executable programs and
  186.       documentation in other directories of your choice.

  189. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  190.  
  191. If you downloaded Replicator from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  192. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  193. following steps.
  194.  
  195.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  196.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  197.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  198.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  199.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  200.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  201.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  202.       the package.

  204.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  205.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  206.       the program files is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  207.       command, "c:\tempdir\install".
